I have always been a very driven person. Sometimes I think I am rather like a horse with blinders on. I set my eyes on something and work like crazy until it is accomplished. About ten months ago I felt the Lord directing me to start my own business. I quit my job, moved back in with my parents and got to work. It was definitely a time of adjustment. I worked and worked and worked but I started to feel like I was just spinning my wheels and I was also feeling zero inspiration. This led to extreme frustration and even anxiety, wondering if I had really heard God’s voice to make this big transition.
God has a great sense of humor and is very good at getting our attention. I began to realize that as I jumped head first into working on my business I had missed the most important thing. I had made myself so busy that I had neglected pursing my relationship with Jesus. No wonder I felt miserable and uninspired!
I think it is too easy to get so focused on life and our “call” that we miss the ultimate reason we were created for—to have meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ. As I came to this realization and re-prioritized, it was amazing to see how even my circumstances changed. Not only was I again walking in divine inspiration, but I had so much more joy, doors of opportunity began to open, my productivity increased and there was a noticeable increase in financial provision.
Jesus desires relationship. He will do whatever it takes to get our attention. If we put our relationship with Him before our “call,” and our productivity, our “call” will happen, but not by our doing and our productivity with increase.
